BRAZIL APPEALTo raise money for this appeal, we intend to publish a recipe book. If you have a favourite recipe for amazing meals, puddings, soups, or any tips about cooking, we would love to include them. Please let us send us your suggestions as soon as possible by email using the link below.
FAIR TRADE ISSUESWe have also been busy raising awareness of Fairtrade issues. The Traidcraft stall which runs on every CAFOD Sunday is now doing steady business and people are coming and asking for particular products that they enjoy. Last June we were busy with the scale up for trade justice campaign. Two members of the CAFOD group set up a stall in Leigh Library where samples of fairly traded produce were given to the public. The response was excellent and many people asked where the Geobars could be purchased from!!At the same time the rest of the group went to see Andy Burnham MP to ask what progress had been made on fair trade issues since the mass lobby in London in 2002. We have since met with Mr Burnham to discuss a range of issues connected with regulation of trade and justice for farmers in the developing world.
NEW PROJECTWe have now moved on. While we will continue our support of the trade justice campaign, we have been given a new initiative to support in Brazil. A quarter of the population of Brazil lives on less than $1 a day. There are more than 8 million street children in Brazil and more than 2 million live in shanty towns . Nearly one in three adults cannot read or write. Our money and our prayers are desperately needed. Watch this space for up and coming fundraising eventS and if you have any ideas that you think could work, CAFOD Appeal Site
